Unprofessional, misleading, and unacceptable

Extremely disappointing experience with Schlepper.

We hired them for a move that included an antique armoire valued at $15,000, with very clear instructions agreed upon in advance with their representative (J). Those instructions were not followed, and the armoire was damaged as a result.

Key issues:

We were never informed or offered any insurance option. It was not mentioned by the representative (J) and not proposed on the day of the move.

The movers could not communicate in English, making it impossible to give instructions or resolve issues.

The movers left our bathrooms in a disgusting, unsanitary condition.

The agreed plan was to disassemble the armoire at pickup and reassemble it at delivery. Instead, they attempted to move it improperly and only dismantled it at delivery when it didn’t fit — causing damage.

Schlepper refused to reimburse us or send a professional restorer, and instead offered $120 for damage to a $15,000 antique.

This is unprofessional, misleading, and unacceptable. We strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you value your belongings.

A Tale of Two Booties

You should use this moving company if you enjoy: (i) attempts to gross up your price by telling you the day before the pickup that a $1500 “local” delivery three hours away requires you to meet the van at the destination on the day of the pickup or be charged an extra $500 for next day delivery, (ii) arriving without the packing materials needed for the picture frames clearly specified in the contract, (iii) delivery vans that leak so badly in the rain that your soaked and shredded boxes need to be re-packed in the van at the destination in dry boxes that YOU supply because Shleppers doesn’t carry any, (iv) damage to the items you specifically noted as requiring extra care (in my case, a $5,000 stereo speaker gouged with severe force), (v) asking that the delivery men wear booties to protect your floor and carpets and, many emails later, being told it will cost you $50, so you buy booties yourself on Amazon for $1, and (vi) being charged for a full month of storage when the goods have been removed from storage in the first week of the month and having to call to ask for the pro rata refund THEN being told that the refund will be made in 2-3 business days THEN seeing no refund in two weeks THEN calling repeatedly and getting voicemail with no return call THEN getting through and being told that the refund was never processed. In short, if you want a moving company that is sleazy, incompetent and disrespectful, Shleppers is for you!

Excellent Customer Service

Their customer service is Excellent. I had a virtual appointment with Eli to show him everything that needed to be moved. I had to change my move date and Eli changed the date immediately and kept the original quote I was given.

Nancy handled the COI that my building required and kept in constant direct communication with them to ensure that all documents were approved by management prior to my move out date. Nancy went above and beyond by contacting my Management office on my behalf because they were closed for a 4 day weekend for Fourth of July and I needed them to approve the move that same weekend and Nancy made it happen.

The three movers arrived on time and were courteous and efficient.

When they unloaded the truck at my new apartment, they made sure the furniture was placed exactly where I wanted.

I was very pleased with the overall experience. Best of all, there were NO hidden fees or extra charges for heavier items. I paid exactly what was quoted on my invoice. I highly recommend Shleppers

Worst Move of My Life

The movers were late, damaged my belongings, and then left the door to my new apartment physically open for2 days after moving my stuff in.But the worst part has been the response by the company. The customer service, in particular Amy Snow, impersonated an attorney to attempt to strong arm me into dropping my complaints. As far I understand, she is still employed with the company. Amy would not give me the name or contact information of her manager--I had to go digging on the internet for it. Then, when I finally got a manager's contact information and informed them of the many many problems with my move, I received only a response saying I would receive no compensation and since then have received no response or compensation from them for months. I now have to take them to court just to get my money back.

Broken Antiques

They broke a 280-year-old grandfather clock and their explanation was farcical. I watched them pack it. I watched them unpack it 5 days later. The pendulum was broken, and the mechanism of the clock was 'compressed.' They said that the damage was not done while under their control......What did they do, send it to mars? It was only under their control, at all times. $4,500 of damage. They offered me $75. Pathetic.

Do not use!

Shleppers failed to provide the quality moving service and professional services paid for.

I recently moved using Shleppers and multiple of my items were broken or damaged. I understand some things will inevitably break in a move but my brand new $1,600 TV was broken because they failed to properly pack it. The service I paid for included Shleppers packing the TV in a box, my expectation for this is a padded tv box like other companies provide. They however wrapped it in an extra cardboard box and called it a day. It looked like they rammed it into a pole. It won’t even turn on. They will offer me 30 cents per pound. For a brand new TV they CARELESSLY broke.

The other notable item they broke was my dresser. As they were moving it in, the mover was holding it by its legs and the legs snapped off. Well of course they snapped off! In what world would you hold a dresser by its legs? I would have expected more from a “quality” “professional” service.

Friends of my sister recommended Shleppers. I was not disappointed. Aside from loving the name of the company, I had a very positive experience from the in person estimate appointment with Gavin to Matteo on the phone when I had to reschedule to Chelsea who confirmed the new date by phone and finally Dimitri and Henry who did the actual move. Everyone was polite, professional, and efficient balanced with kindness and understanding. The price was reasonable for what I had moved and Gavin was an informative realist for what I would need. This was much appreciated.

I highly recommend Shleppers!

Broken dreams

Broke over $6,000 of our stuff and the *RECOMMENDED* secondary insurance paid out $0. Shleppers paid only 60¢ a pound for the loss. Go in with eyes open if you use this company. If you do not buy insurance *through them directly*, you will be totally exposed. For what it's worth the receiving company cross-country said they were shocked at how poorly and roughly everything had been treated.

Shleppers Movers

Wonderful moving company. Would definitely use Shleppers again. They were on time both at pick up and delivery. Delivered everything unbroken and made the move easy. We did the packing but Shleppers did the moving with professionalism and all around respect for my property. I am unable to find any negatives to say about this company. The people at Shleppers were always willing to help and phone calls were always answered or if not answered immediately the calls are returned in a timely fashion. Nisim was wonderful to relate to and was very personable.

Horrible! do Not Use Schleppers!! Beware!

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY!! THEY ARE AWFUL! THEY LOSE YOUR STUFF AND THEN DON'T BOTHER TO RETURN YOUR CALLS AND FOLLOW UP!!

Only 5 of 60+ boxes showed up labeled! I, as well as my husband, specifically spoke to the foreman (Rafael Maldonado) on his/their arrival regarding the labeling of boxes. We asked that the boxes be labeled with the rooms the items were being packed in to make it easy for us in our new home. We stayed in the home during the entire process in case they needed to ask us anything. The day of the move into our new home, the movers kept asking us "where does this go?" in reference to the boxes and we had to just tell them to leave it in the living room since NONE of the boxes had labels creating a disastrous non-organized mess yielding far more work on our end. This is not what was explained to us when we met with Gavin Blainey and frankly doesn't deliver on the level of service we paid for. Boxes showed up crushed as if they were thrown around carelessly. Our clothes was packed completely unorganized and the wardrobe boxes were smashed and clothes was just lying at the bottom of them which made it difficult to unpack. They took half of the clothes from one drawer in the master bedroom and completed the box with clothes/items from half of a drawer in the guest room dresser. This didn't make any sense and showed the lack of care in our packing/move. This has created a mess for us in the unpacking process. We could have done a better job ourselves! Definitely did not deliver on the service or the price that we paid for this move!

Once we confirmed our delivery address, we were never informed that there would be an additional fee if the movers had to move the items further than 70 feet from the truck. The driver explicitly told us we had no choice in the matter and had to pay him because otherwise, he wouldn't release our items. We had a small window to move the items in since the association schedules a time and date for the move. We ended up having to pay for an unnecessary shuttle service as well as extra movers in order to get our things delivered. The driver told us we needed additional movers because we had too much stuff and called it a "very large move". All of these items were accounted for prior to packing by Gavin Blainey as well as on the day of the move by the foreman. We would have expected a company with a reputation such as yours to know how many movers are needed prior to delivery. Instead, we got stuck having to go into our pockets and pay more. We were also told the day of the move from New York by the foreman that we would be receiving an updated estimate since we were not shipping fewer significant items (couch, clothing, etc..) than originally estimated. We still have not received that email and have been charged the original full amount.

We have called Schlepper's on multiple occasions regarding our missing items and no one has followed up with us. This has become a cat and mouse game and not the way you should treat customers who put trust in this company with their belongings and spend so much money on their move. It's been two weeks since our move and no one has returned our calls in regards to our missing furniture and items. We filed a claim a week ago and still haven't receive any response from the customer claims manager. This is absurd!! At this point, we're going to get our lawyers involved. I've never experienced such awful service in my life.. especially for the amount of money we spent!!

Long-distance move from Hoboken, NJ to New York, NY

Moving with Shleppers.

It's 9pm and I finally got a chance to sit down and write a review of our moving experience today.

I'll start from the end: over the years we have used many different moving companies and I can say with confidence, Shleppers comes on top and I see no reason to shop for other movers, ever. Here is WHY:
- Price: For our move today and same for our last move 2 years ago, Shleppers came up with the best price among the serious moving companies. I mean you could find a dude with a van for less I'm sure but we have a full 2-Bedroom and many delicate and valuable items. We received quotes from four other top NY players, all more expensive.
- Service: from free on-site estimate to pre-move coordination to moving day follow up and quality assurance calls while the move was in progress - just awesome. Every little wimp we had was accommodated and with a smile.
- NOTHING BROKE. The team of 5 (!!) handled our belongings with silk gloves and as much care as if they were moving their own household.
- 360 service; we moved but also needed storage and materials and it's just great to get everything under one roof without over paying.
- Timelyness: The truck was downstairs right on time as promised, it was a big move and yet, by 5PM we were sitting in our new house, beds assembled, TV on and beers cold. Who can ask for more.

Thanks for the great work guys and keep up the good work!

Hire these people!

Our recent move, on Sept. 2017, from Midtown to Upper East Side Manhattan, with Shleppers Moving & Storage was flawless from beginning to end! They were great with communication, punctual, caring and their responsiveness went way beyond our expectations.

The movers were extremely skilled, professional, quick and friendly. They handled every piece of furniture with extreme care and reassembled without a problem and they delivered my items without any breakage or scratches. Also I literally did not have to lift a thing.

It was all done for one fixed priced. There were NO extra charges. One security deposit of 100$ after the first quote and the remaining balance charged on my cc the morning of the moving day.

I could bot have been happier and highly recommend Shleppers Moving & Storage. Hire these people!

Terrible Company.

Terrible company - do not use. They sent a truck with a padlock on the main rear door and they forgot to bring the key. As a result of their complete negligence they were unable to use the lift-gate (and main truck door) and they damaged several pieces of furniture. They are not taking responsibility and they are unresponsive when I try to contact them. Please pm me if you had a similar experience as I will likely have to settle this in court and would love to make this a class action. There was once piece of furniture that they chose not to move at all and they refuse to take it off my bill - straight up fraud. Do not deal with them - so not worth it!

Shleppers move from Conneticut to Cleveland, OHIO.

I used Shleppers to move my stuff from a 30th floor Manhattan apartment to a 1st floor apartment in Concecticut last year. My epxprience was excellent. This year I used their services to move Connecticut to Cleveland, Ohio.
Out moving representative Shannan is a sweetheart. She is very professional, responsive and answers all you r questions.
The foreman Raleigh and his team was awesome they came excatly at 9 am. I had asked for packing- they pain-stakingly packed every glass ware very carefully. The service is very punctual with no delays at all in getting all the stuff to Cleveland. With Shleppers moving literally becomes a breeze. I didn't have to do anything. They take care of it all.
I have recommended them to all my family and friends and we would be using their service again next year to move from Cleveland to Ann Arbor.
They are really the best customer service I have experienced in any kind of industry.

Terrible expierence.

Worst moving experience I've ever had. The movers rushed the drop off, because they "Don't get paid by the hour". Reminding me multiple times of this. Secondly, my platform bed would not fit in the elevator, they suggested I throw it out (and I would have to dispose of it). It only had to go up 1 flight of stairs! I asked to at least try, they got it up half the flight and gave up. Leaving it up to my Father and I to dismantle it. They would not put it back together, even though that was in the contract.
LASTLY, they rushed off, with one mover deciding to relieve himself right in front of my new building apartment. A complaint was made by a neighbor who took the attached photo. My new Super came by threatening to fine me for this.

Terrible, do not use!

They blocked me on Facebook so I will post elsewhere. Terrible customer service. They sent us two contractors to move us. Besides the fact that they were complaining about not being paid by the hour, only one moved us, while the other waited by the truck so they wouldn't get a ticket. Schleppers didn't answer any of our calls the morning of for 1.5 hours because the items they had listed were incorrect and we tried to sort it out. Stephen from customer service put me on hold four times without ever helping me. He would stay on the phone and literally not talk. At 11AM, two hours after my start move time, when the movers were getting upset beacause I was wasting there time, and my super was trying to get us out, Steohen said he would have to cancel my move. I was beyond angry and had to pay more money! After the move, they didn't call me back for two days. It was a nightmare, incredibly stressful. If you get a small white truck, with Schleppers on the side, call another company. You won't regret calling someone else who won't break your wedding plates and wine glasses, and only get offered $0.60 per pound of broken item.

Great move and junk removal service.

Our Shleppers movers did a great job packing our fragile collectibles and other personal items for a move to a storage site in PA. They were exceedingly polite, professional and went out of our way to be mindful of our concerns. Bob, the job foreman, showed us exactly where in the truck out things were going and showed us that care was taken to avoid any damage to our things. They were actually waiting for us the next day at our storage site and then did a great job unloading our things from the truck to the storage site. In addition, we had a Shleppers crew take care of junk removal for us two days later. Not only did these men haul things out of our garage and under-house crawl space, but actually removed a very old, exceedingly heavy refrigerator from our basement with absolutely no damage to the stairs and walls. The bannisters to the basement were carefully removed and reinstalled properly and safely. Thank you Shleppers!! Great job for a great price!! Looking forward to our final move to PA from Brooklyn.

Most negligent movers I've ever known.

Don't even think about working with these people. I paid extra for "professional packing services" and they were simply negligent, putting pieces of china, glassware without any protection. They managed to take all my silk ties from the wardrobe, rolled them up and put them in the bottom of a box with a printer on top! Similar thing with women dresses. I got many things broken/damaged and when I complained the manager assured me they would take of everything. After more than a month they had me waiting for "upper management" to approve my settlement they offered me $80 as a "goodwill gesture". Stay away from them.

Damaged all our furniture

Nearly all our furniture was damaged. We moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn with a week of storage. The only insurance they offered was 60c/lb. There is a huge dent on our wood console, a broken door on that console, a hole in our Aeron chair, and every one of our items with leveling feet had at least half the feet come off. No attempts from the movers to help. In fact, we feel they knew about the damage and didn’t tell us - clearly something was dropped on the console - because they ran off quickly after we tipped them and we did not realize the extent of the damage until we unwrapped all the blue plastic wrap.

In addition we were up charged last minute for several items.

WARNING: DO NOT HIRE SHLEPPER’S MOVING & STORAGE!!!

I hired Shleppers to pack and move me in November of 2020—a residential move in Manhattan. It was an unmitigated DISASTER from start to finish—with multiple damages to furniture, improper packing, missing items, lack of safety protocols during the move, as well as irresponsibility and dishonesty from the moving crew, and a complete lack of customer service.

It was a nightmare move, and here are 5 reasons why:

1. MULTIPLE MISSING ITEMS: Some items simply did not make it from the moving truck into my new apartment, including a folding step stool and three rugs (worth a total of $265). I might be able to chalk that up to a moving mistake, BUT two days later, I realized that 3 framed pieces of art valued at a total exceeding $20,000 were also missing. (These pieces were eventually located over 5 days later, one by one, by the foreman. They were miraculously found on the truck, which had allegedly been emptied and inspected by him right after the move).

2. EXTENSIVE DAMAGES: The crew was incredibly reckless. Not only did they break the leg of a $6000 Design Within Reach sofa, but they left it in the basement (it was unable to fit in the freight elevator) and never told me what had happened. They simply duct taped the leg on! A second Shleppers crew (that I had to pay extra for) came the next day to carry the sofa up to my apartment, and they discovered that the leg had been snapped in two. Shleppers did send a carpenter to repair the leg, which entailed super-gluing and drilling screws into it. It’s unclear how long this peg leg will hold up, and it looks like hell.

The crew carelessly moved an armoire and dropped it on a custom built desk, creating large divots in the wood. They removed wooden knobs from a credenza and lost them. They did not properly pack a Design Within Reach floor lamp (neither removing the lamp shade nor the lightbulbs!) before transporting it. I watched that lamp tumble onto Riverside Drive! Another vintage 1950s lamp shade that was never removed from the lamp or packed at all, is now it is completely bent and lopsided.

3. IRRESPONSIBLE PACKING: Extremely valuable glass and bone china items were put into boxes with no wrapping or protection whatsoever. Two vintage glass globe lights were tossed in a box on top of a printer and had another lamp and a small end table placed on top of them with no protection whatsoever! Even though I reiterated multiple times that all these items were very fragile, they were not even wrapped in paper or bubble wrap.

4. LACK OF CONCERN FOR SAFETY PROTOCOLS: We are in the middle of a global pandemic and I expected that everyone on the crew would take their safety and mine very seriously. One individual on the crew did not wear a mask. In addition, this employee was agitated and rude throughout the move, at one point yelling at me while I was discussing something with the foreman. The super at my new address actually told him not to come back into the building because he was yelling and cursing.

5. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE: When you call Shleppers, you will get the Dispatching Dept. When you are transferred to Customer Service, you will eventually talk to a Claims Representative. There is no real “customer service” at all. I called Shleppers on the day that I realized that art was missing, in the desperate hope that they could recover the lost property as soon as possible. The “customer service” and the “operations/dispatch” representatives (same thing) were unresponsive. There was no attempt to look for the lost valuables, or check the picture bins they were packed in. There was no sense of urgency at all. In fact, I was told that the moving truck had been completely emptied and inspected by the foreman of the moving crew, and that the “empty” picture boxes had been flattened. Having been told by dispatch that they could do nothing, and getting no response whatsoever from the nonexistent customer service department, I emailed the co-CEO and owner, who did reply within 24 hours—but with a form email that said I should contact someone at customer service!

I filed an insurance claim with Shleppers (a weeks-long, nickel-and-diming ordeal), and their settlement was so paltry and insulting that I refused to sign the claims waiver (stating that I would not post anything disparaging or negative about the company) in order to get the money. THIS IS THE WORST MOVING COMPANY I’VE EVER USED.

Upcharge after moving half empty boxes

Schleppers' quote was reasonable. When they came to our apartment to pack our belongings they were rushing and rather than packing each box with items from one closet or area they shoved everything in together in a mishmash. The movers also got into a fight with our building super over the fact that they refused to share the elevator and got themselves kicked out of the building so I had to finish taking the boxes out of my apartment myself. Fortunately this was late in the day so I only had about 20 boxes to move myself.

When they were almost to my new house they called to say they needed to charge me an extra $750 because they had used extra boxes. It was only after they left that I realized that many of the boxes were MOSTLY EMPTY so they used up extra boxes just to generate an extra charge!

When I confronted the management about this they refused to do anything about it. They make extra profit by this corrupt practice so I'm sure they are incentivized to keep it up.

BEWARE THEIR EXTRA CHARGES!!!

Surprise price hike mid-move + broken sofa

I picked Shleppers because I'd had a good experience with them in 2013, but this was like a completely different company. Will never use them again and strongly advise against it. I paid extra because they offered a live video estimate using FaceTime, unlike other movers who would've required me to do my own detailed inventory, including counting all the boxes after they're packed, which is difficult if you need to book ahead of time and can't live out of a suitcase for 2 weeks. They showed up, started complaining that the estimate was inaccurate, and I agreed that they should call headquarters. Then, they started the move, half-loaded the truck, and declared that I would have to pay 25% more in order to finish the move! Of course I was over a barrel at this point – I thought I was paying their higher prices to avoid this situation! On top of that, they put a big hole in a leather sofa and offered my $35 to replace it, since I hadn't paid even MORE money. No better than the worst of NYC movers.

TERRIBLE Experience

I have moved internationally over nine times and can easily say this is the worst inexperienced movers I have come across.

To start, their crew were mainly loaders not packers, they did not know how to handle sensitive items or delicate furniture, the first thing they did was negotiate their tips. I paid over TWENTY THOUSAND Dollars for Professional packing and care, and what I got instead was a terrible job and bad attitude.

The did not only break our irreplaceable china items, but they also scratched/broke my unique furniture, paintings, lamp shades and valuables. I had to guide their inexperienced crew on how to wrap and pack items and provided them with warping foam and wood packing crates to protect my items, yet the result was a disaster. To pain to injury, the crew members insisted on their negotiated tip and the company claimed that they needed a bigger truck as the volume was larger than what they anticipated and asked for an extra amount of $1,650 on top what they received already. I was obliged to pay to release my shipment. When we received the shipment, I shocked to see that they sent the wooden crates which I provided them for protection of my items EMPTY, we also received two boxes which belonged to another client and had missing items which they stated they could not locate.

I sent them over 30 pictures of the broken/damaged items and their customer care person asked me to contact the insurance company as they could not help. No apologies No regrets but simply a careless attitude.

We are literally in pain seeing our valuable which we owned for over 25 years and have been moving with them from country to country DAMAGED.

I will NEVER RECOMMED Shleppers
